Valencia CF Footballers’ Association to play charity match in Utrillas against provincial veterans
The match will take place on 27 June at 20:00 at ‘La Vega’ Stadium, with all proceeds going to the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC)
The Valencia CF legends present at Mestalla on Tuesday night were given a rousing ovation from the close to 3,000 fans in attendance. There, they remembered some of their fondest memories of their time at the club, and looked ahead to March 24th, 2019, when they will play a game against Spain Legends.
Among the more veteran former players in attendance in this week's event were Juan Cruz Sol, Pepe Claramunt, Roberto Gil and Guillot, who recalled the club's first meeting with Glasgow Celtic (VCF's next opponents in the UEFA Europa League) in the 1962 Fairs Cup. Guillot scored a brace in the first leg, which ended 4-2, and also found the net at Celtic Park (2-2).
Kempes: "We'll be waiting for you all on March 24th at Mestalla"
Another former player returning to Mestalla was Mario Kempes, but he did so via the video scoreboard. His message was the following:
"I hope to see the fans come out at Mestalla on March 24th. We'll be waiting for you all. Amunt!"
Kempes was once a teammate to Ricardo Arias, Miguel Tendillo and Felman, the latter remembering that time with particular fondness.
"Kempes was the best foreign player to have played here. It was a pleasure to have shared nights, afternoons and days with him that were unforgettable. He was a spectacular player, and I don't know how much he would be worth nowadays. Kempes identified with the club as if he had been born here, and he helped us to become champions."
